HAIR REGENERATION:

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM HAIR REGENERATIVE TREATMENTS?

Hair regenerative treatments helps restore hair quantity and quality in women and men with thinning hair. These treatments can also be used to maintain your current hair quality without the aid of such products as Rogaine and Propecia. It can also help prevent hair from additional shedding. Hair loss is often hereditary and hormonal which typically leads to hair follicles gradually slowing and shutting down. This leads to thinner, shorter, and finer hairs in the affected areas of the scalp. By using PRP (platelet rich plasma) it increases hair growth by stimulation of inactive hair follicle stem cells. PRP has shown great non-surgical results in slowing hair loss and increasing hair growth.

THE PROCESS

Plasma Rich Plasma- (PRP)- Your own whole blood is drawn in a small amount exactly like a routine lab at your annual physical. It is then put into a centrifuge and spun down to separate PRP (concentration of platelets derived from your own whole blood) which is then injected into the scalp. These platelets are a rich source of proteins known as growth factors and they work by stimulating stem cell activity in dormant (inactive) hair follicles.

This process initiates a localized stem cell response and also makes your own body’s cells create new tissue and healthy skin. PRP, an extract of your own blood contains 3 to 5 times more platelets, growth factors, and active proteins for tissue and injury healing. A topical or if needed injected numbing medication is used to numb the scalp for the PRP injections.

The procedure takes about 45 minutes. There is virtually no down time for you except for minor injection site redness. Potential small amount of swelling and bruising depending on the site of injection. A series of treatments is recommended as it maximizes the longevity potential for hair regeneration. This occurs on average about every 6 weeks to follow your hair cycle. Generally 3-6 treatments are recommended but at 3 we determine further frequency depending on the severity of hair loss. Results can start to appear as early as one month but more typically within 4-6 months. Over time 12-18 months you will notice that hair will continue to become thicker.

Q&A

How long can I see results for? The longevity of treatments like any procedure can vary from patient to patient and whether the cause is hereditary, hormonal, or caused by another medical issue. For patients with more advanced hair thinning, additional treatments to continue building on the initial groundwork and results would be warranted in 12-18 month intervals most commonly.

Am I a good candidate for Hair regeneration? Treatments can only work on existing hair follicles (even if micro hair follicles) that are present and alive. This treatment will not work to regenerate dead hair follicles. Thus, these treatments are most effective on patients experiencing thinning hair and hair loss and less effective on patients with complete loss of hair follicles and severe hair loss. .
